Caribbean Cruise Basseterre St Kitts

St Kitts is a popular cruise ship port of call. It is one half of the St Kitts-Nevis Islands. Ships dock at Port Zante and in cases of an overflow, Birdrock Deepwater Port is used. Port Zante in Basseterre, has the distinction of being one of only 2 Caribbean Ports where the St Mary II can dock. Basseterre is a delightful port town and the capital of St Kitts. On arrival at port, passengers are welcomed by an entourage of cultural performers and tour providers. You will immediately become aware of the Island’s British and French heritage, noticeable in the well maintained colonial buildings.

Getting Around

Taxis are readily available just as you disembark. They are easily recognized by yellow license plates that have the letters T or TA on them. Bus service is also available operating from 5 Am to 1 AM. Several ferries are available to connect passengers to and from the twin Islands of Nevis and St Kitts. A car-ferry service is available for those with cars. Mini bus and several
car rental serves are available.

Things to See and do

Brimstone Hill Fortress. From here you can get great views of the Georgian roundabout similar to London's Piccadilly. You can also get an eye popping view of the vibrant sugarcane fields.

The Circus . This is the hub of this port of call. Streets dotted with fascinating shops are an attraction in itself.

Independence Square. Here you will find an original 1790 slave market.

The St Georges Anglican Church is a 1690 French built historic treasure.

Alimo's Inn is one of the most popular bars in St Kitts and has something for everyone like karaoke, poetry reading and DJ music. For casual waterfront dining try Fisherman’s Wharf. Serependipity has great food and a beautiful view of Basseterre and the bay Fine dining is available at the Royal Palm at Ottley’s Plantation Inn.

St Kitts is a lush, unspoiled tropical paradise with a wonderful mix of sun, sea and tropical forests. You will want to get a glimpse of the elusive velver monkeys and enjoy all the sights and sounds of St Kitts.
